Leeds United told to U-turn on top candidate to replace Marcelo Bielsa after journalist update – Phillips
Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan should not be Marcelo Bielsa’s successor at Leeds United, according to Kevin Phillips.
The ex-Sunderland and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the Whites need “a high-profile manager” if Bielsa, 66, leaves Elland Road at the end of the season.
Bielsa’s contract with Leeds expires at the end of the current campaign.

According to The Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath (10 February), Corberan, Jesse Marsch and Ernesto Valverde are the three top candidates in the frame to replace Bielsa should he choose to exit.
Corberan took charge of Huddersfield Town in July 2020 after a spell at Elland Road, where he was a first-team assistant and a manager of the Under-23s.
When asked by Football Insider if Corberan would be a shrewd appointment, Phillips said: “I would go for someone more experienced.
“Yes, Corberan has done a decent job at Huddersfield but it is a massive jump to go from Huddersfield to the Premier League, especially when Leeds want to go on to the next level. For me, that appointment would be an eyebrow raiser.

“Leeds are a huge club and if they want to challenge the top eight then you need a high profile manager. They need someone top class, not one of these merry-go-round managers.
“I think they need someone more experienced than Corberan and that is me being totally honest.”
