Leeds United transfer news: Josko Gvardiol update is ‘brilliant to hear’ – pundit

Leeds United must refresh their squad by signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

That’s according to former Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s transfer plans.

On Thursday (14 April) Football Insider revealed Leeds United are stepping up their interest in signing Gvardiol.

The Yorkshire giants have tracked the Croatia international, 20, for more than two years and came close to signing him in the summer of 2020.

Leeds have conceded 68 goals in the Premier League this season, more than any other side.

Kenny insists this must be rectified ahead of next season and admitted he can see Gvardiol moving to Elland Road.

“We know Leeds need to strengthen, they need to strengthen all over,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They didn’t sign anyone in January and it nearly cost them. I think they will stay up but it was touch and go for a bit.

“There is no surprise for me that they are looking at a top-quality defender so that’s brilliant to hear.

“They still have the worst defence in the league and the squad just needs a refresh as well.

“That can gives you such a benefit and Leeds have essentially had the same squad for two years now.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if this one did happen.”

Gvardiol has made 39 appearances for RB Leipzig this season and is valued at £27million.

Jesse Marsch will be very familiar with the defender from his time working within the Red Bull multi-club network.
