Leeds transfer latest: Club are keen on signing three players – reliable journalist

By Harry Sykes

Leeds United are keen on signing three specific players as they continue to be active in the transfer market, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Lee Sobot has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Championship giants are looking at bringing in the trio to strengthen the squad.

Sobot admitted that he did not know the identity of the players in his social media dispatch at lunchtime on Wednesday but claimed they were “not the names out there”.

Leeds have been strongly linked with the likes of defenders Aden Flint and Tommy Elphick as manager Thomas Christiansen continues his revamp of the team that finished seventh last season.

United have signed 10 new players this summer but have only managed to make one addition to the heart of their back-line.

Matthew Pennington was brought in on loan from Everton earlier this month and will add to Christiansen’s options, but Liam Cooper remains the only other centre-back who is able to feature in the first two domestic fixtures of the season due to the unavailability of first choice Pontus Jansson.

Sobot’s update suggests that Flint and Elphick are not being targeted for the vacant centre-back position.

Football Insider verdict:

There has been a clear shift in Leeds’ transfer policy this summer. Under the old regime, there was a focus on bargain buys who were known to the agents advising Massimo Cellino, or those who had caught the eye of the manager at the time. Now, Leeds are focusing on younger players with their peak years ahead of them and the potential to generate a transfer market profit if they make a big impact. It would be a surprise if the three players they’re looking to sign do not fall into this category. Supporters should expect the signings to be under the age of 26, rather than way above that mark.

In other Leeds transfer news, the club have agreed the terms of a stunning £7million deal.
