Leeds 'not happy' with Lucas Perri as new signing plan accelerates
Leeds United have been unhappy with Lucas Perri's performances and are prepared to move him on, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old joined Leeds in a £15.6million move from Lyon last summer, but failed to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road.
As a result, the Whites are hopeful of receiving offers for the goalkeeper and plan to use the funds from his sale to reinvest in the squad this summer.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Daniel Farke is now accelerating work to land a new goalkeeper with Perri no longer in his plans.
A number of goalkeeping targets have been discussed at Elland Road, and they are now preparing to step up their interest in the coming weeks.
Should Perri move on, the funds will be reinvested into the squad, while Karl Darlow's move to Man United has only increased the demand for new additions.
Will Leeds United accept offers for Lucas Perri?
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Leeds want to sign a top-class goalkeeper as they prepare to move on from Perri.
Leeds are hopeful of receiving offers for their goalkeeper, and would prefer to sell him permanenlty, but have not ruled out the possibility of a loan exit.
Clubs across Europe are believed to be keeping tabs on his sitatuion, and should Leeds land a new addition soon, it could accelerate talks over his departure.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "We know that Leeds are looking for goalkeeping reinforcements in the summer transfer window.
"They’re not happy with Lucas Perri as their number one goalkeeper, his performances haven't been up to the standard the expected of him when they signed him last summer.
"So they know they will need to bring in a replacement for him and if the right offer comes in for him, I'm sure they will listen to it."
Which goalkeepers are on Leeds' radar?
If Perri is to leave Elland Road this summer, it will be to make way for a new addition, with the club's recruitment team still assessing a number of top targets.
Scouts have been keeping a close eye on the performances of a number of leading goalkeepers across Europe, with both domestic and foreign options on their radar.
Brown told Football Insider on 6 July that Leeds have been tracking the performances of Orjan Nyland at the World Cup as he had impressed in Norway's campaign.
A mistake from the goalkeeper ultimately cost his side as England won 2-1 after extra time, but his level of performance throughout the tournament has attracted high-profile interest.
His availability after leaving Sevilla as a free agent has placed a number of clubs, including Leeds, on high alert and he is now expected to make a big move this summer. We know that Leeds are looking for goalkeeping reinforcements
