Leeds plan Dominic Calvert-Lewin 'talks' as 'big-money' exit mooted

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be in line for a new contract at Leeds United as they aim to deter growing interest in his services.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season at Elland Road, having scored three goals in five Premier League games and helped his side rise to fifth in the table.

Since his arrival from Everton on a free transfer last summer, the striker has established himself as a crucial part of Daniel Farke's side, but has attracted interest from elsewhere.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds are not willing to sell Calvert-Lewin and it would take big money to lure him away.

Instead, work could be done to extend his stay at Elland Road and reward him for his impressive form, with a bumper new contract being lined up beind the scenes.

Calvert-Lewin's current deal at Elland Road is set to run until 2028, and despite no suggestions that he could leave any time soon, Leeds hope to get him tied down long-term.

Could Leeds United cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

Football Insider revealed on 20 September that Leeds have no plans to entertain offers for Calvert-Lewin in the near future despite links with potential suitors.

That came after former Man United forward Michael Owen tipped the striker for a move to Old Trafford as a result of his impressive displays at Elland Road.

However, Leeds are not willing to lose their star man in the near future and work is being done to keep him at the club, with a potential contract extension on the horizon.

"Calvert-Lewin is a very important part of what Leeds are trying to do," Brown told Football Insider.

"They took a risk when they brought him in, because I must admit I had doubts about his fitness and his goalscoring record which was not the best during his time at Everton.

"But since he's gone to Leeds, he seems to have put all of that behind him and he's been very impressive again so far this season.

"Obviously that's where you get the speculation about 'Could he be allowed to leave Leeds?' and 'Who might be interested?', but they're not going to want to sell.

"It would take big money to even tempt them at this stage, because where would they go to get a better and more effective striker than him?

"I think it's more likely that they would offer him a new contract to keep him at the club and put off any interested clubs, plus it would be a reward for his impressive form.

"I expect they'll hold talks about that at some stage in the near future, just to clear up how everybody feels, and if they can reach an agreement then they could look to tie him down."

How does Calvert-Lewin feel about leaving Leeds?

Any decision about Calvert-Lewin's long-term future will largely depend on whether the striker is willing to commit his future to the club despite interest from elsewhere.

Since his move to Elland Road last summer, he has gone from strength to strength and recaptured the form many expected him to show earlier in his career.

As a result, Football Insider revealed on 21 September that Calvert-Lewin is happy at Leedsf United and has no plans to seek a move away in the near future.

After a string of impressive performances under Farke's guidance since last year, the striker is now back to his best, and hopes he will continue to thrive at Elland Road.

Those performances, which have continued into the new season, have most recently earned him a call-up to Thomas Tuchel's England squad ahead of the international break.
