Leeds United contract could be signed 'by Monday' after 'surprising' development

Published on:

Daniel Farke could ease concerns over his future by putting pen to paper on a new contract at Leeds United in the coming days.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that no deal being announced during the international break was "slightly surprising".

Despite Leeds sitting fifth in the Premier League table, the manager's future is one of the biggest talking points at Elland Road right now.

The 49-year-old's current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 campaign, with talks currently ongoing over fresh terms.

It was expected that he would sign a new contract while all the players were away on international duty, but Farke has confirmed that there is no news to share just yet.

Some supporters are becoming concerned that his time could be up as Leeds manager, but those fears have been squashed pretty adamantly.

Daniel Farke deal to be announced very soon

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has explained the simplicity of manager contracts, suggesting that it could be even be thrashed out over the weekend.

"Obviously, things are going well. I wouldn't expect they're going to risk losing him at the end of the season," he said.

"So I'm sure it'll be done. But, obviously, this was a good window to do it. It doesn't take that long. We aren't talking about the most complicated negotiation in the world.

"So it's slightly surprising, but then again, by the same nature, it can be done very quickly tomorrow, today, maybe Monday.

"They're not complicated contracts, the manager ones. So I wouldn't read too much into it."

Could Leeds United be withholding the good news?

All the attention at Thorp Arch will be on preparation ahead of the trip to the Emirates Stadium, facing Arsenal on Saturday, 10 October.

Now could be the best time to face the Gunners, right after the international break, with Mikel Arteta losing to Brighton last month.

However, history is not on the Whites' side. Arsenal have won the last eight meetings between the two sides, with an aggregate score of 26-5.

Should Leeds be thrashed by the North London outfit, the announcement of Farke's future could raise spirits straight after a damning defeat.
