Lukas Nmecha 'unhappy' at Leeds amid new contract update

Lukas Nmecha is unhappy with his playing time at Leeds United and is unlikely to sign a new contract as things stand.

The 27-year-old has made four Premier Leauge appearances so far this season, but all four of those have come from the bench, and he has played a total of just 64 minutes.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains the first-choice number nine at Elland Road, and that is unlikely to change, meaning the Germany international will remain down the pecking order.

As a result, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Nmecha will listen to offers ahead of his Leeds contract expiring next summer.

The striker will see his current contract expire in June 2027, and will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement to make a move abroad when the January transfer window opens.

Leeds are planning to hold talks with Nmecha to assess how he feels about his long-term future, but while they would be keen for him to stay, he is unhappy playing second fiddle.

Could Lukas Nmecha push to leave Leeds United?

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Nmecha will look to leave Leeds when his contract expires if his playing time does not improve before the end of the season.

He registered 10 goal contributions in 37 appearances last season, but was only handed 10 Premier League starts, and had hoped to receive increased playing time this term.

Should he continue to play a subsitute role this season as expected, it is becoming increasingly likely that Nmecha will look to move on next year.

"Lukas Nmecha is going to be unhappy if he's not starting games, it's as simple as that," Brown told Football Insider.

"It's difficult for him at Leeds, because Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the first choice there and that's not going to change, because he's an important part of the way they play.

"But as a player, you want to play as often as possible, you want to be on the pitch so that you can prove your worth and do what you do.

"He's not being given that opportunity at Leeds at the moment, certainly not from the start, and so it's interesting when you look at his contract situaion there.

"At the moment, if things stay the way they are, I don't expect him to sign a new contract and I think he'll be looking at his other options.

"It's a long season, so that could chance, but at the moment I just can't see a way he's going to sign a new contract when he's not starting games and not playing regularly."

How do Leeds feel about losing Nmecha?

Nmecha remains in control of his future as things stand, with his contract situation allowing him to weigh up his options regardless of how Leeds feel about his future.

However, there is a feeling he still has a big part to play at Elland Road even if he is not a regular starter and will be needed when the fixture schedule ramps up.

Football Insider revealed on 13 September that Leeds rejected offers for Nmecha during the summer transfer window and have been relictant to let him leave the club.

Instead, they are hoping to hold talks about a new contract before the end of the season in an attempt to convince him to commit his long-term future to Farke's project.

There are doubts about the striker's willingness to pen a new deal, but Leeds are keen to keep him around and will make efforts to do so.
