Sources: Lukas Nmecha eyes Leeds exit as contract talks stall
Lukas Nmecha will look to leave Leeds when his contract expires if he is not given ample game time this season, sources have told Football Insider.
The German forward, 25, signed a two-year deal at Elland Road in 2025 and so is now into the final year of his current contract.
He registered 10 goal contributions in 37 appearances last season, but was only handed 10 Premier League starts by Daniel Farke.
Nmecha has started this term behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the attacking pecking order once again, with two substitute appearances in their first three league outings.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, he is likely to reject the offer of a new Leeds contract if his game time does not improve this season.
He attracted surprise interest from Championship side Wrexham towards the end of the summer window, but Leeds did not entertain a sale despite it counting as pure profit.
He is likely to attract widespread interest in the new year if he does not sign a new contract, with talks yet to begin as he nears the end of his deal.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I think a lot of it will come down to the player himself. He knows that Calvert-Lewin is the first-choice striker in Daniel Farke's plans, so it depends on whether Nmecha is happy and content to be playing back up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
"If he's not, and he wants to be playing more regularly, then he might seek a move away from Elland Road."
Leeds 'confident' of striking Daniel Farke agreement
Leeds' chiefs are currently focused on sorting out a new contract for Farke as he strives to take them to new heights this season.
The German manager has earned respect for consolidating the Whites in the Premier League, but is also out of contract at the end of the campaign.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Leeds are confident of tying Farke down to Elland Road long-term in the coming months.
Leeds managing director Robbie Evans has insisted that Farke and the club are "on the same page" as they look to agree a new deal.
