‘Leeds work on A-list striker signing’ after ‘huge’ Cameron Archer update
Leeds United are considering alternatives to Cameron Archer despite a strong interest in signing the Southampton striker this summer.
That is according to former Man United and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 23-year-old is on Daniel Farke’s list of targets.
However, after Southampton paid a “huge” £17million fee to sign the forward from Villa, there are concerns about whether that money could be better spent elsewhere.
Brown explained that Archer fits into the bracket of “players who are very good in the Championship, but not quite good enough for the Premier League”.
As a result, Leeds have been tipped to be more ambitious in their summer recruitment targets amid links to Roma striker Tammy Abraham.
This comes after former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Leeds want to sign Archer alongside another A-list striker.
The Southampton forward has scored just two goals in 24 league appearances this season and his side look destined for relegation once again.

Leeds to aim higher than Cameron Archer in new transfer twist
After links with a move to sign Norwich star Josh Sargent, Football Insider revealed that Leeds want to sign a better striker than Sargent ahead of their anticipated promotion.
Now, Brown, who experienced promotion while working as a scout for Aston Villa and Sunderland and has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment, has insisted Leeds must also aim higher than Archer in their attempts to sign a forward.
“I don’t think Cameron Archer is the answer to their problems,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s come up on their list of targets, but there’s no record to suggest he can score the goals they’ll need in the Premier League.
“He’s a promising player who’s been here, there and everywhere in recent years and he may yet come through and improve.
“I think at the moment he falls into the group of players who are too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League.
“Leeds need to find players in the market who are suitable to them and available at the right price.
“Southampton paid a huge fee for Archer so I’m not sure what it would cost to get him out of there, I think that might be an issue for Leeds.
“Perhaps that type of money could be spent on better players.
“I don’t think he’s a bad player, by any means, he’d be a good option to have in your squad, but I’m doubtful about whether he’s the man to play every week in the Premier League.”

Jack Harrison set for Everton exit after David Moyes twist
One player who looks set to return to Leeds in the summer is Jack Harrison, who has spent the last two seasons in the Premier League on loan at Everton.
Football Insider revealed on 28 February that Everton will not sign Harrison permanently following his two loan spells at Goodison Park.
Now, Brown has told Football Insider that Everton are working to sign Harrison’s replacement as David Moyes plans to add more flair and creativity to his side.
As a result, the winger will return to Elland Road where Farke will make a decision about his long-term future and where he fits in with the club’s plans.
