Leicester City news: Ex-Fifa official issues ‘100 per cent’ verdict after Jannik Vestergaard footage analysed
Keith Hackett has applauded referee Lawrence Visser for his decision to penalise Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League official claimed the referee was “100 per cent” correct to award a penalty and book the 29-year-old.
As shown on Sky Sports (26 March), Netherlands were awarded a penalty just after the hour mark after Steven Berghuis was brought down by Vestergaard inside the 18-yard box.
The incident saw the centre-half booked for the first time in his international career.
Memphis Depay converted from the spot to give Louis van Gaal’s side a 3-1 lead, with the game finishing 4-2 in their favour.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the decision, Hackett said: “Oh dear.
“When a defender sticks out a straight leg like that, they often face the consequences and Vestergaard did here.
“It was a silly tackle and it is a penalty kick. 100 per cent.
“The referee has got that one spot on. A penalty and a yellow card is the correct decision. I think the referee managed the game really well.”
Vestergaard has two goals to his name in 32 caps for his country, one of which came against Netherlands.

The centre-back has made 20 appearances across all competitions for Leicester City this season.
Brendan Rodgers’ side signed the Denmark international from Southampton last August for a fee of £15million.
