Leicester City news: Medical Insider issues ‘worrying’ James Maddison claim as footage emerges on Sky
There should not be any major concerns over the fitness of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison going into the World Cup.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
As quoted by the Metro on Saturday (12 November), Brendan Rodgers revealed Maddison had not trained much recently after he was substituted early on as Leicester City beat West Ham 2-0 with a knee problem.
In footage shared by Sky Sports on Wednesday (16 November), the 25-year-old was shown in training with his England teammates in their first session in Qatar.
“It’s nothing I would be overly worried or concerned about with Maddison heading to the World Cup,” Dinnery told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“If it was anything serious or there was anything underlying then we’ve seen that Gareth Southgate and the FA would have been in contact with the medical team and taken the decision to not send him to Qatar.
“On the flip side of that, by no means would Brendan Rodgers be risking Maddison in that final domestic fixture if there were any concerns regarding his fitness heading into that game.
“If you ask the majority of players who are coming off the back of those congested fixture periods, 16 gameweeks plus European excursions and domestic cup excursions, nobody is 100 per cent at this stage of the season. They are all carrying knocks and niggles.

“It’s just about the management of those. He started the game and maybe he felt something then they ultimately made the decision to remove him from play.
“It’s not something that I would be overly concerned about.”
