Leicester City points deduction: Stefan Borson ‘very surprised’ after new twist
Leicester City facing a Premier League appeal over their alleged Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach is “very surprising”.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the top flight may have had advice that they could win on appeal despite admitting their rules are poorly drafted.
Football Insider revealed in a new twist on Friday (18 October) that Leicester are facing more points deduction uncertainty after the Premier League appears to have appealed against the latest decision in their PSR case.
The Foxes were charged in March with a breach of the rules for 2022-23 season after reporting losses of £89.7million for that year alone – with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
They argued they were no longer a Premier League club when they submitted their accounts on 30 June last year following their relegation to the Championship – and that argument was eventually upheld last month after an appeal.
Leicester points deduction twist is ‘very surprising’, says Borson
Borson claimed the Premier League’s new move comes as a shock as they are “undermining their own processes”.
He told Football Insider: “I’m very surprised.
“I would have thought that the Premier League would have just moved on.
“We know, from their own admission, their rules are not that well drafted.
“I would have thought that they would’ve accepted that, moved on and fixed the drafting of the rules.
“They’ve obviously had advice that they can win.

“That might be right, there is a way to win but they still have the problem of dealing with Leicester and also undermining their own processes.
“I’m sure they thought about this but it’s just very hard to understand.”
