Expert issues ‘shock’ verdict on Pereira comeback date after Leicester City

Leicester City star Ricardo Pereira could be out for as little as “six to eight weeks” despite suffering a broken leg.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Liverpool’s Tyler Morton, 19, escaped a red card for his wild challenge on Pereira in the League Cup clash at Anfield last Wednesday (22 December).

As quoted by The Sun last Sunday (26 December), manager Brendan Rodgers revealed Pereira has a “fractured fibula” as a result of the incident.

It was the Portuguese right-back’s first match back after a hamstring injury that saw him sit out 12 matches.

But Dinnery explains that Pereira’s injury is not as bad as the layman might have initially feared.

“We say broken leg and think it’s always long-term, but it shocks some people to know that’s not always true,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It’s a fractured fibula, so it’s non-weight-bearing. He isn’t exactly pain-free but on the scale of injuries, it isn’t too serious.

“There have been examples of players returning in four or five weeks. I would suggest in this instance that it is more likely to be six to eight weeks.

“If we were looking at an ACL then it’s a significant amount of time on the sidelines, so he’ll be grateful it isn’t that.

“I’m not aware of any plans for surgery, so we can assume that it is non-displaced and doesn’t need any fixation.”

Leicester face Liverpool again tonight (28 December) in the league, six days after Jurgen Klopp’s side won on penalties after the 3-3 in the League Cup.

Pereira has registered two assists in 12 matches in 2021-22.
