Leicester City news: Medical expert issues ‘huge’ verdict after Jamie Vardy update

Leicester City icon Jamie Vardy will use the “huge” upcoming Europa Conference League clashes as motivation as he steps up his recovery.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

The second half of Vardy’s 2021-22 has been blighted by injury and the 35-year-old has not played since he sustained a knee injury in early March.

Per Leicestershire Live today (21 April), Brendan Rodgers revealed that the striker has had a course of injections and would rejoin training this week.

The Foxes face Roma in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final tie next Thursday (28 April).

And Dinnery suggests that Vardy will use the prospect of European glory to drive him forward as he uses injections to speed up his return to action.

“The injections aren’t a cure,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He won’t have the injection and all of a sudden the knee gets better again.

“We have heard Rodgers saying that Vardy is feeling pain when he opens his knee joint up to have a shot.

“From that, we can ascertain that the injection is being used to alleviate the pain and deal with some of that inflammation.

“This could be used either as a temporary measure to get him through to the end of the season or as something to facilitate the recovery process.

“There are no guarantees with this aspect of his rehab, but the hope is that it will address the problem.

“He’ll be looking at that Europa Conference League. That will be a huge motivational factor in how long it is before he’s back on the pitch.
