Leicester cut-price offer for Tariq Lamptey could be accepted by deadline

Leicester City could be set to land Brighton full-back Tariq Lamptey on a cut-price deal before the January transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Lamptey isn’t any closer to signing a new contract for the Seagulls.

The former Chelsea defender only has six months left on his Brighton contract which has led to him being subject to speculation throughout this transfer window.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the 24-year-old could be signed for £10million or less this month if Brighton opt to cash in on him before he leaves for free in the summer.

However, Leicester are expected to have plenty of competition to land Lamptey as there are lots of clubs lining up for him right now.

Football Insider revealed that West Ham have been closely monitoring the full-back, while Everton are also interested in signing him.

Leicester City could have trouble signing Tariq Lamptey

Not only do Leicester have competition in trying to sign Lamptey, but they also have to convince the player himself that they’re the right club for him.

Well-placed sources have revealed to Football Insider that it will remain to be seen whether or not Lamptey wants to join a team in a relegation battle.

The defender could have further options in the summer when he will become a free agent, which could also guarantee he lands a Premier League club for next season.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team have struggled defensively this season, with only two teams in the Premier League boasting worse defensive records than them.
