Leicester hit by ‘big blow’ as Wilfried Ndidi close to Everton move – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted the imminent loss of Wilfried Ndidi is a “big blow” for Leicester City and their survival hopes.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) are to blame for the Foxes losing the 27-year-old, allowing Everton to swoop in and sign him on a free transfer.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (26 June) that Everton have offered terms to Ndidi, who has let it be known he favours a move to Merseyside and the chance to work with their manager Sean Dyche.
The Nigeria international has rejected a new deal at Leicester, meaning he is set to leave the club as a free agent when his deal expires on 30 June.
Ndidi played a key role in the Foxes’ title-winning Championship campaign last term, making 26 starts in 32 league appearances.
Ndidi exit is ‘big blow’ for Leicester, says Wyness
Wyness insisted the midfielder would be a “good signing” for Everton, but admitted sympathy for Leicester’s position.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a big blow for Leicester.
“But unfortunately for them, the position they’ve got themselves into means they’ll have to play good boys – for this season at least.
“They know they will have the Premier League all over them in terms of looking at their books and accounts.
“I think Ndidi will end up at Everton, he’d be a good signing.
“Leicester will be sorry to see him go. He’s a seasoned Premier League player with real talent.
“It’ll be a loss. He’s the player you want in that top-flight team because he knows the level well.

“This is where the PSR is so tough on the promoted clubs. We’ve said it many times, and it’s very difficult for the clubs who are now having to go through this.
“Having to get rid of some of your best talent seems wrong when clubs like Man United have a billion pounds of debt.”
