Leny Yoro cited as Man United told to agree deal with player who’s transformed his career
Man United have been encouraged to extend Harry Maguire’s contract beyond the end of the season as he continues to prove his worth.
Maguire returned to the starting XI and played a crucial role as Michael Carrick’s side beat Man City 2-0, reigniting speculation about his long-term future.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 32-year-old still has a big part to play and has turned his career at the club around after being close to leaving on many occasions in previous windows.
His leadership and performances at the heart of the defence are expected to be crucial, while the likes of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro can learn from his experience.
Brown warned Football Insider in September that Amorim is pushing Maguire out of Man United, but Carrick’s arrival may now have given him a second chance.

Man United backed to extend Harry Maguire deal
Football Insider revealed on 24 October that Man United have yet to make progress with Maguire in contract talks, but are not ruling out extending his deal.
They are now being encouraged to accelerate their progress in talks after his return to the starting XI, as well as his influence off the pitch.
“Man United should be looking to keep Harry Maguire,” Brown told Football Insider.
“On the basis of what he has done for them over a long period, every time he comes into the side he’s a stabilising or winning influence on the team.
“He came back into the side against Man City and showed what Man United have been missing.
“He’s incredibly reliable at the back, especially in a back four, he keeps things organised and he’s also a massive influence both defending and attacking set pieces.
“These are all assets Man United need in their current situation. He’s going to be crucial.
“They should be highlighting his importance and influence on the team and recognising that they would be better of keeping him around.
“Some of the younger players in the squad like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro can learn from him, and that’s just as important as his role on the pitch.
“I think it’s something they have to be looking to do, especially now he’s going to play a big role under Michael Carrick and can prove his worth.”
Michael Carrick makes Man United transfer plan
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 15 January that Carrick wants to sign a left-winger as a priority after holding talks with Jason Wilcox last week.
Matheus Cunha started on the left wing during Man United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton, before Patrick Dorgu was picked in the position in the 2-0 win against Man City.
As a result, the club’s recruitment team are scouring the market for suitable loan options which would fit within their budget for the mid-season window.

A loan deal is being considered rather than a permanent deal as things stand, as it would allow the club to reassess the position under a new manager’s guidance.
This comes after Football Insider revealed in November that Man United are unlikely to spend big in January as they continue to eye high-profile targets.
