Leon Balogun reacts to Rangers transfer announcement after Ibrox exit

Leon Balogun has reacted to Rangers’ latest transfer activity after being released by the Ibrox club this summer.

The defender made 30 appearances for the Bears last season, but was not handed a new contract by the Scottish Premiership giants.

After his release from Rangers, the Nigeria international joined Cypriot side Aris Limassol in June and is set to feature in this month’s Conference League qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the Gers have prepared for life without the 37-year-old by signing fellow centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez from Peterborough United.

Balogun reacts as Rangers sign Nasser Djiga

Russell Martin has already enjoyed a busy summer transfer window at Ibrox as Rangers signed Max Aarons on loan from Bournemouth, as well as making permanent additions such as Joe Rothwell.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 9 July, the Ibrox outfit announced the signing of Nasser Djiga on loan from Wolves.

After confirming the defender’s arrival, the Scottish Premiership side shared a photo of the defender wearing a Rangers scarf on Instagram, captioned with a blue heart emoji.

The Bears’ post attracted a like from Balogun, whose last appearance for the Glaswegian outfit came against Hibernian on 17 May.

Djiga’s Ibrox move is ideal for all parties

The centre-back joined Wolves from Serbian club Crvena Zvezda last February, but went on to make just six Premier League appearances and was only named in Vitor Pereira’s starting lineup once.

Djiga struggled for game time at Wolves

Djiga was a key man for Crvena Zvezda, but his lack of game time for the West Midlands club would have proved damaging for his development if it continued.

However, the Burkina Faso international’s transfer to Rangers should see him enjoying more playing opportunities, which is an ideal scenario for all parties involved.

Djiga will relish the opportunity of enjoying regular football at Ibrox, while Wolves will hope that his spell north of the border will enhance his game.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old is a talented player who made 10 Champions League appearances last season, and should be a real asset in the Scottish Premiership for a Bears side who must knock rivals Celtic off their perch.
