Leon King backed to make it at Rangers after source’s quit reveal – expert
Alan Hutton has told Leon King to prove himself to Michael Beale in order to get more game time in the Rangers first team.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said that it will be difficult for King to oust the likes of Ben Davies, Connor Goldson and the returning John Souttar.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a spell in the first team this season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst but has not featured for the first team since December.
On 13 March, Football Insider revealed that the Light Blues could be set to lose players like King if they are unable to offer a clear pathway into the first team.
But Hutton suggested King has his chance to prove himself to Michael Beale.
“You always want to see the young players breaking through and there has to be a pathway to the first team,” he told Football Insider.
“If not, what is the point of it being there? I think Leon King has had a fair crack at it. The position at centre-half was difficult, especially under Van Bronckhorst when he kept having to change things. He did have opportunity to play.

“Moving forward Goldson is a starter, Souttar is coming back, Davies has built up a good partnership, it is going to be difficult for him. But I think ultimately if you are good enough you will play.
“It does not matter what age you are if you should the manager you are good enough then you will play. It is up to him to play at that level where the manager has to pick him.“
