Leon King ‘lucky’ to escape ban as Rangers footage analysed – Hutton
Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers defender Leon King was “lucky” to avoid a red card against Motherwell on Sunday (16 October).
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said a yellow card was the right decision on the day.
As shown on BBC Sport (18 October), King, 18, was shown a yellow card for a wild lunge on Stuart McKinstry in the second half.
The Bears went on to win the game 2-1 after a tense end to the game.
Hutton suggested that if the challenge been closer to the goal King might have been given his marching orders.
“Overall I think yellow was the right decision,” he told Football Insider.
“There was force in the tackle, there is no getting away from that. He does mistime it.
“For me, where he is a little bit lucky is where it is on the pitch. If it was ten yards closer it would be a red card because he would be through on goal. It was just in that area of the park where it is far enough out that it is a yellow.
“That being said there was force, he did catch him but I think overall a yellow is the right decision.“

On Wednesday (12 October), the SPFL released a statement confirming that VAR will be introduced in Scotland this month.
The technology was initially supposed to come in to play after the World Cup but VAR is ready to be introduced ahead of schedule and will get its first outing in Hibernian v St Johnstone at the weekend (21 October).
