L’Equipe: Senderos has a week to convince top-flight club to sign him after Rangers exit

By Harry Sykes

Philippe Senderos has a week to convince MLS side Houston Dynamo to hand him a contract, according to a report.

French newspaper L’Equipe claim that the centre-back, 32, is poised to relaunch his career with the Texas club following his exit from Rangers.

It is said that Senderos has seven days to persuade coach Wilmer Cabrera that he deserves a deal with the club currently third in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.

Former Arsenal and Aston Villa centre-back Senderos left Rangers when his contract expired at the end of last month following a wretched season in Scotland.

He made only three starts in the Scottish Premiership and made just four appearances in total, was sent off in the Old Firm derby and Pedro Caixinha decided not to offer him an extension.

Former Rangers defender DaMarcus Beasley plays for the Texas outfit, while Owen Coyle managed them between 2014 and 2016.

Football Insider Verdict

Senderos’ career as a serious European footballer is clearly over. Like many at the veteran stage of their careers, he is not looking for one last pay day in the less competitive environs of the MLS. The Swiss centre-back showed last season that he cannot cut it even in Scotland, so he is best suited to football in north America, where the level is lower and the climate more to his liking.
