Levy reportedly secures new Tottenham arrival, deal is now done
By Harry Sykes
Tottenham have appointed Steve Hitchen as their new chief scout, it was confirmed on Thursday.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Spurs have finalised the appointment of Hitchen and he completed his return to White Hart Lane at the start of the week.
The Mail claimed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had personally moved to appoint transfer specialist Hitchen for the second time as he continued the restructure of the club’s recruitment department.
Head of recruitment Paul Mitchell is serving his notice period after quitting the club, while former chief scout Ian Broomfield left the club last month.
Hitchen has made his return to Tottenham after having a senior role in the club’s scouting team during Harry Redknapp’s reign as manager.
“It’s true about Steve Hitchen,” Pochettino said on Thursday, as quoted by the Ham and High. “It’s a different position [to Paul Mitchell] but I can confirm he’s been working from Monday.”
Spurs chose not to sign any players in the January transfer window even though they are the best placed of all the Premier League teams to challenge leaders Chelsea for the title.
Pochettino’s side are second in the league ahead of Saturday’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, which is an evening kick-off.
Tottenham have 50 points from 24 matches, but they are nine behind Chelsea, who have remarkably won 19 of their league fixtures this season.
It is reported that Spurs are still planning to appoint a replacement for Mitchell and the interview process to find a replacement is close to completion.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Daniel Levy has lined up the next Spurs arrival as the deal is all but done.
