Liam Rosenior stunned by what Enzo Fernandez did amid Chelsea exit links: ‘It surprised me’

Enzo Fernandez continues to be a major talking point at Stamford Bridge as the Chelsea star attracts attention from around Europe.

PSG are interested in bringing Fernandez to France, with the player highly respecting the Ligue 1 giants, and supporters becoming more and more anxious about the 25-year-old’s future.

Despite the speculation, Fernandez is still playing a major role in the first team, making his 31st appearance of the 2025-26 season at the weekend, grabbing his 12th goal contribution.

Even with Cole Palmer‘s return, the Argentine has kept his place in the starting lineup, alongside Moises Caicedo, and he was vital against Brentford on Saturday, 20 January.

Enzo Fernandez goes beyond as Chelsea beat Brentford

Fernandez played 85 minutes as the Blues secured a 2-0 win against the Bees, being replaced by the fresh legs of Jorrel Hato, and the new manager could not quite believe what he saw from the player.

Speaking in his press conference (20 January), the new boss was quizzed about his star’s future, saying: “When you’re a world-class player, there is always going to be speculation you cannot control.

“Enzo has been outstanding in the time I have worked with him. He was ill on Saturday, but the way he covered the ground, it surprised me.”

As well as getting an assist from closing down his opponent, he created three chances, completed two dribbles, made three recoveries, won 75 per cent of his ground duels, and 100 per cent of his aerial duels [FotMob].

What has the Chelsea midfielder said about PSG?

Some Chelsea fans may want to look away because Fernandez has previously spoken about PSG, who are very much interested in him, and it doesn’t make for great reading at Stamford Bridge.

During the Club World Cup, before the two sides faced off in the final, he said: “Today I think it is (the best team on the planet), they have achieved it in recent months, and their level of play has also been improving.”

Luis Enrique‘s side have not had the most successful of 2025-26 seasons, currently sitting second in the French top division, but the Champions League title is on the cards yet again.

The Blues are 13th in the Champions League right now, so automatic qualification to the knockout stages is very much possible, and that will be one of Rosenior‘s biggest tests this season.

As for keeping Fernandez, there is only so much the new boss can do, but it is pretty obvious how important he already is to Rosenior, which should sweeten the pot when it comes to the player staying in West London.
