Ligue 1 club make contact for West Ham 27-year-old – report

By Derek Smithson

French club Stade Rennes have made contact with West Ham about Sofiane Feghouli, according to a report.

French outlet L’Equipe claim that the Ligue 1 side have made initial contact about the possibility of signing the 27-year-old.

It is understood that the attacking midfielder has received an offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray, but that he is not keen on leaving London.

The report details that Rennes would most likely struggle to match his wage demands and that a deal is a long way off.

Feghouli moved to West Ham last summer and endured an average first season with the club.

The right winger made 28 appearanes across all competitions, scoring four goals and supplying three assists in return.

He will hope to enjoy some better form ahead of the new season and become a regular in Slaven Bilic’s starting line-up.

Feghouli will be competing alongside the likes of Robert Snodgrass, Manuel Lanzini, Michail Antonio and new singing Marko Arnautovic for a position in the wide areas.

Football Insider verdict:

Feghouli had an underwhelming first season in English football, but should be given more time by manager Slaven Bilic to show his quality. The wide man is blessed with great trickery and proved in glimpses last season that he can be effective in the final third. The Hammers now have several attacking options at their disposal and Feghouli can play an important role in the new season. He has shown his ability with national side Algeria and former side Valencia, so there is no reason to suggest he can become a very useful player next year when he has settled more.
