Lineker reacts on Twitter to Everton display against Bournemouth

Gary Lineker took to Twitter to hail Romelu Lukaku’s remarkable four-goal display for Everton in their 6-3 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Merseysiders’ spearhead struck twice in the first half and another two times late in the second period to help the team continue their fine league form.

Everton are now unbeaten in seven matches and the triumph at Goodison Park not only consolidates their position of seventh in the table but also narrows the gap on Liverpool in fourth.

Match of the Day host Lineker was impressed by the impact made by Lukaku, who became the first player in the Premier League this season to score two hat-tricks.

Referring to the reactions of those supporters who had selected or omitted the striker from their teams, Lineker wrote on his personal Twitter account: “Four goals for Lukaku. Fantasy football fans all over the country either jump for joy or punch a wall.

The Belgium international opened the scored after just 28 seconds at Goodison Park with a sublime finish and put his team 3-0 up after 29 minutes when he took advantage of a suicidal back pass to loft the ball over the helpless Artur Boruc.

Two right-footed strikes from Lukaku in the final seven minutes capped a memorable afternoon for the player, who had never previously scored four in one match in his professional career.

Lineker claimed on Twitter that the number of goals scored at Goodison reflected a “bonkers Saturday” which would make for some difficult scheduling choices from the Match of the Day team.

Lukaku has now scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, 16 of which have come from 23 Premier League matches.

The Belgian now tops the league scoring charts for the campaign, ahead of Diego Costa, Alexis Sanchez (15), Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jermain Defoe (14).
