Lingard tipped to dazzle at Tottenham after ‘Levy gives assurances’ over January deal – pundit

Jesse Lingard would “really suit” Antonio Conte’s style of play at Tottenham, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old could replace Dele Alli in the Spurs squad – with the former MK Dons man seemingly “surplus to requirements”.

As reported by ESPN (November 18th), Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle, and Everton are among the sides interested in signing Lingard.

Tottenham

The 32-cap England international could reportedly ask for a loan exit from Old Trafford in January ahead of a permanent move in the summer.

The midfielder has played just 63 league minutes this term, scoring two goals.

Whelan insisted Lingard could be part of a “big, deep squad” capable of challenging for a top-four finish this season.

“I think he would get into that Tottenham side, absolutely,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Dele Alli is looking like he’s going to be surplus to requirements, even though he came on for a short cameo yesterday.

“Lingard could come into that squad in his place. They will need a big, deep squad if they’re to challenge in the league and in Europe.

“Conte knows that and will have been given assurances by Daniel Levy that there will be money available to compete and try and get into that top four.

“They need to get that strength in depth that Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea have – because that’s what is required.

“Jesse Lingard is exciting, direct – he can create and score. He would be perfect for Conte’s style.

West Ham

Antonio Conte oversaw his first Tottenham league win on Sunday against Leeds United.

Lingard’s Man United contract expires at the end of the season.
