Lionel Messi cited by McAvennie after ‘incredible’ Celtic news

Frank McAvennie has claimed the “incredible” atmosphere at Celtic Park could be a “draw” for international players looking to make a move to Scotland.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker pointed to the fact that players like Lionel Messi have heaped praise on Parkhead in the past.

According to a poll by The Sportsman (29 June), Parkhead has the best atmosphere in British football.

It ranked six places above Rangers’ stadium Ibrox.

In 2020, Parkhead was ranked fifth best in the world for atmosphere, according to France Football.

Liverpool’s home Anfield was the only British stadium ranked higher that year.

When asked if he thought the high praise of the stadium would encourage players to join Ange Postecoglou’s ranks, McAvennie told Football Insider: “It could be a draw for players.

I mean, you look at [Lionel] Messi, he said it’s the best atmosphere, [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi, Celtic get drawn against Barcelona all the time and players like that look forward to it.

Rather than thinking it’s going to be a chore going to Celtic park, they all look forward to it. They’re top professionals and they said Celtic Park was the best atmosphere they’ve ever played in.

Celtic

It’s a great experience but Celtic have been voted the best supporters many times – home and away.

Going to Celtic Park, 60,000 fans, it’s an incredible atmosphere. When it’s an important game like the Champions League or something, under the lights, it’s something special.

In other news, McAvennie has claimed Celtic can be expected to sign Christopher Jullien replacement after journalist’s update.
