Lionel Messi’s next steps revealed at Inter Miami after Man City speculation

Lionel Messi is not set to reunite with Pep Guardiola at Man City as he plans to end his career at Inter Miami in the coming years.

Messi‘s magical career has continued to reach new heights in the MLS, after he led Inter Miami to their first-ever MLS Cup triumph against Vancouver Whitecaps last month.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner remains one of the world’s best players, even at 38-years-old, with speculation around his future rife following the end of the MLS campaign in December.

Man City have emerged as the favourites to be Messi’s next club, as they are likely the most capable of paying the type of wages he would want, but other sides have been mooted to sign him soon.

Messi is not set to leave Miami anytime soon, though, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, with plans in place for him to end his career at the club owned by David Beckham.

Messi not preparing to join Man City as he plans to end his career in Miami

Messi signed a new contract with Miami in October to tie his future down until 2028, and a move to the Premier League looks as unlikely as ever right now.

The Argentine icon holds a minority ownership stake in the club, so could soon end his playing days in Florida to join Beckham in the boardroom.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “As things stand right now, he’s probably going to end his career at Inter Miami.

And then he has talked about going into club ownership, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he is involved in the ownership at Miami going forward, or somewhere else.

So yeah, I think that talk of maybe Lionel Messi moving on is probably not true. I don’t expect him to leave.

I think Inter Miami are more than content that he’ll be staying there, and it seems that Messi is also happy at the MLS club as well.

Man City interested in move for Brentford’s Michael Kayode

The Citizens may not be signing Messi anytime soon, but they have already made a big move to bring in Antoine Semenyo and look set to seal Marc Guehi’s signature in the coming days.

Sources have told Football Insider that City are eyeing a move for Brentford full-back Kayode as they aim to add more depth to Guardiola‘s backline.

They are not set to be alone in the race for his signature, however, with Liverpool tipped to move for Kayode alongside a host of other top clubs.

The 21-year-old long throw-in specialist has made 26 appearances for the Bees so far this term, and has started each of their 21 league matches up to now.
