‘Liverpool ace sees contract extended despite anticipated departure’

Liverpool have secured the future of another first-team player at Anfield following a new contract extension.

Amid the club’s march towards the Premier League title on the pitch, contracts have been a major talking point off it this season.

Earlier this week, Liverpool announced that Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year contract at Anfield in a major boost to the club.

However, it looks as though Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool in order to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his deal expires in the summer in what will be a blow for the Reds.

Amid all that, the Merseyside outfit have now taken steps to ensure another player does not depart for nothing at the end of this season.

Viteszlav Jaros agrees new contract

With the FA revealing this week the amount that each club has paid to agents over the past year, it emerged those payments have cost Liverpool over £20million.

That makes the Reds the seventh highest spenders on agents in the Premier League, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

As part of those fees, it is noted that those accounts indicate third-choice goalkeeper Viteszlav Jaros has been handed an updated deal by the club.

This update states that “many” had believed the Czech international was out of contract at the end of this season, which could have seen him leave for free in the summer.

However, these was also said to be a clause in his contract to extend the 23-year-old’s contract, which now appears to have been triggered.

To date, Jaros has made two first-team appearances for Liverpool, his most notable being when he came off the bench to replace the injured Alisson in the 1-0 Premier Legaue win at Crystal Palace in October.

Liverpool contract move is sensible

Football Insider Verdict

While Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to move to Anfield in the summer, Caoimhin Kelleher looks as though he is set to leave Liverpool at the same time.

As a result, retaining the services of Jaros beyond the end of this season could be a sensible move for the Reds to make.

That way Arne Slot will still have three senior goalkeepers to work with, giving him plenty of useful depth with his options between the posts.

Indeed, Jaros did well when he came on for Liverpool against Crystal Palace, so he may not be a bad option to keep at the club either.

Even so, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk still to sign his new contract at Anfield, there are more important deals that the club still need to secure.

With that in mind, those at Liverpool will hope this is not the last of the renewals that the club make in the coming weeks and months.
