Liverpool agree potential £4.5m defender deal – reliable journalist

By Danny Wright

Liverpool have agreed to sell defender Andre Wisdom to Derby, according to a reliable journalist.

The Daily Telegraph’s Midlands football journalist John Percy reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that the Reds have accepted an offer potentially worth £4.5million from the Championship club.

It is understood that the initial fee is £2million but the “whole package” could see that figure rise to £4.5million.

The Daily Telegraph has previously reported that Derby had an initial £1million bid for Wisdom rejected by Liverpool and that the Premier League side wanted double that before they would consider selling him.

The centre-back, who can also play on the right side of a back four, has only ever made 22 first-team appearances for Liverpool since rising through their youth ranks and has spent the last four seasons out on loan.

In 2013/14, Wisdom spent the season on a temporary deal at Pride Park and was held in high esteem after making 38 appearances in all competitions.

Less than impressive loan stays at West Brom and Norwich followed, where Wisdom failed to reach the levels of his performances at Derby.

The former England Under-21 international spent the last season with Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg and played 16 times in the Bundeliga, despite suffering with various injury problems.

Football Insider Verdict

It’s pretty clear from all the loan spells that Wisdom has no future at Anfield and it makes sense for Jurgen Klopp to sell him for the good of his career. It’s all gone very downhill since his solid year-long stay at Pride Park after failing to prove himself as ready for Premier League football with West Brom. The initial £2million that Liverpool look set to receive won’t really go a long way in terms of Klopp’s transfer budget, but clearing out some deadwood and making a profit at the same time doesn’t have many bad points. Wisdom could be a good signing for Gary Rowett, but if they get promoted he cannot be expected to play in the top-flight.
