Liverpool ‘almost certain’ to confirm early-window signing after Luis Diaz update – pundit
Liverpool may be forced to make a loan signing in January with Luis Diaz set to miss another three months of action.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ options in the winter window.
Diaz was due to return from a knee injury he suffered in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in October in time for the Premier League restart.

However, BBC Sport reported on 14 December that the 25-year-old has suffered a setback and will now be out for a further three months after undergoing surgery on his knee.
After selling Sadio Mane in the summer, McManus claims Liverpool now have a lack of depth in attack.
“I just wonder if Liverpool might dip into the transfer market now,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“Three months is a long time to be without a player like Diaz. With Mane gone, you take Diaz out of the attack, you’re a bit short of options.
“We know there are going to be a lot of games in the back end of the season, Liverpool are in Europe as well. Can they afford to lose a player for that long?
“Maybe a loan signing could come in and cover then go back at the end of the season. I don’t know how many real quality players would be available for loan, that’s the only thing.
“I would be surprised if they didn’t do something in January now though. I think a move is almost certain at this point.

“They will miss Diaz and they will miss having that body to choose from.
“I definitely think they need someone.”
