Kieran Maguire issues ‘£11m’ reveal as Liverpool and Man United ‘agree fee’

Liverpool and Man United are both in line to pocket “significant sums” from July’s exhibition match in Thailand.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the money-spinning potential of overseas tours.

As confirmed by both Liverpool and United club media on Thursday (31 March), the pair will meet in the Centenary Cup in Thailand.

Pre-season ahead of 2022-23 represents the first chance either side has had to tour overseas since the beginning of the pandemic.

The cheapest tickets to take in the clash at the Rajamangala Stadium cost the equivalent of £114, but the vast majority of seats are priced at £455.

Maguire revealed that United earned £11.3million in their last pre-Covid exhibition tour and that they are in line for a similar windfall this summer.

“They are charging really high ticket prices, which isn’t a big surprise,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“They will agree a fee with the promoter and then the promoter agrees ticket prices, so the two aren’t connected.

“Both clubs will be on significant sums. In 2019, in a pre-Covid environment, United generated £11.3m from friendly matches.

“To put that in some context, they earned more money from exhibition matches than Crystal Palace and Fulham did in a full season of matchday income.

United are currently 6th in the Premier League, while Liverpool are 2nd.

The two sides will meet for the final time this season at Anfield on 16 April.
