Liverpool and Newcastle hit by Dean Huijsen blow after journalist’s transfer update

Dean Huijsen’s future looks set to dominate the summer transfer window as the number of clubs keen on signing him increases.

The 20-year-old Bournemouth centre-back’s stock has risen exponentially this season and coincided with the Cherries’ rise up the Premier League table, with Andoni Iraola‘s side still in European contention.

Huijsen‘s 28 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth have yielded two goals, an assist and seven clean sheets, and an first two international caps for Spain have followed for the highly-rated defender.

Interest from English and European club has followed Huijsen’s rise, and Football Insider revealed last month that a £50million release clause in his Bournemouth contract makes a transfer look inevitable this summer.

Bayern Munich enter Dean Huijsen transfer race

Huijsen remains fully focused on the task at hand with Bournemouth for the time being, but once the window opens, the Cherries are likely to be inundated with bids from Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Former Man United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Real Madrid could “easily” pluck Huijsen from the Vitality Stadium, but now, another of Europe’s giants has expressed their interest.

Florian Plettenberg reported via X (30 April) that Huijsen is “high on the list” for Bayern Munich this summer, but the German giants would need to sell Kim Min-Jae in order to fund the £50m fee required.

Bayer Leverkusen’s out-of-contract captain Jonathan Tah is another centre-back the Bavarians are “seriously looking into” signing, with “talks ongoing” for Tah as a much cheaper alternative to Huijsen.

Dean Huijsen alternatives sought by Liverpool and Newcastle

Huijsen will have his pick of clubs if and when his £50m release clause is activated, and while Newcastle and Chelsea’s bids will be dependent on Champions League football, he’s likely to be on the move.

Liverpool’s own bid for Tah on a pre-contract was unsuccessful in the early stages of the current season, and despite their Premier League title victory, the Reds could be beaten to another target in Huijsen too.

Football Insider have also revealed that Newcastle are interested in a potential £40m move for Kim Min-Jae this summer if they don’t sign Huijsen, and such a transfer could instead open the door for the Spaniard to move to Bayern and not directly strengthen their Premier League rivals.
