‘A dream come true for me’ – New signing expresses delight at joining Liverpool

By Russell Edge

Liverpool’s new signing Andrew Robertson has spoken of his joy to be joining the club after securing a move from Hull.

The Reds confirmed the capture of the Scottish international via their official Twitter account, as well as the club website.

The 23-year-old left-back signed a long term deal with the club, and will be looking to add to his 57 Premier League appearances he earned while at Hull.

In total he made 115 appearances across all competitions for the Tigers, having joined from Dundee United in 2014, while he also has 15 international caps to his name, having made his Scotland debut back in 2014.

Following confirmation of the move, the 23-year-old said joining Liverpool was a dream move, and that the club was one of, if not the, biggest clubs in the world.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “When you grow up as a kid you dream of playing with big clubs such as Liverpool and to make that a reality is a dream come true for me.

“Hopefully I manage to do that this season and go on to do good things for this club.

“There’s not many, if any, more special clubs than Liverpool.”

He also took to posting on his personal Instagram page to show off his new squad number, 26, and speak of how his boyhood dream has become reality.

Football Insider verdict

The capture of Robertson might be one of the biggest of the summer for Liverpool. His arrival should signal the end of James Milner’s stint at left-back, and will allow him to regain a place in the centre of midfield. However, with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum also fighting for a central spot, it will be difficult to judge who will get the nod. It could see any one of the quartet depart, with Milner unlikely willing to be a reserve left-back. Still, squad depth will be crucial with Champions League football back on the cards, and Jurgen Klopp will do well to keep his squad happy with their playing time.
