‘Liverpool could agree Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk sales due to hidden fitness issues’
Liverpool have agreed deals with both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah for the pair to remain at Anfield for the next two seasons.
The star duo could have both left the Merseyside giants for free on 30 June had they not agreed extensions.
The Guardian reported on 17 April Van Dijk’s contract will be worth up to £400,000 a week after performance-related bonuses are included, taking the deal to almost £42million across the two years.
The Netherlands international will turn 34 in July, but he has started every Premier League game for Liverpool this season.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it would have been “ridiculous” if Van Dijk had been allowed to leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer.
Arne Slot’s side claimed the Premier League title following their 5-1 victory over Tottenham.

Liverpool could agree Virgil van Dijk sale
Borson suggested Liverpool would be able to sell Van Dijk next summer if his form dips over the next year.
He told Football Insider: “It is a lot of money.
“You know those deals will be completely depend upon their fitness. If Van Dijk and Salah stay fit and play to the standard they played this season, then it’ll be good value for money.
“If they don’t, it will be poor value for money, and I think probably Liverpool’s calculus is that certainly in the case of Salah, if actually after year one it’s not working they can pull the parachute rip cord and he’ll go to Saudi.
“It might not be as easy for Van Dijk, but they’ll probably be able to move him on somewhere if they needed to, so the overall risk when they do the sums is probably limited.
“You would think that the way that Van Dijk plays and how they are likely to put somebody alongside him, who is younger and faster let’s say, probably means he’ll be completely fine for the full two years and it will therefore probably be worth doing.
“It is a lot of money, but to lose him for free equally would have been a little bit ridiculous.”

Darwin Nunez could agree Liverpool exit
Football Insider revealed on 22 April Darwin Nunez is open to a Saudi Pro League move this summer as he closes in on a Liverpool exit.
The 25-year-old has been scarcely involved in recent weeks – a clear sign he is not trusted to deliver by Slot.
The Uruguay international has made just one start in the Premier League in 2025, having registered seven goals and seven assists in 43 appearances this season.
