Finance guru: Liverpool to match £235m Man United deal as new talks revealed
Liverpool will likely be able to match the value of Man United’s £47million-a-year front-of-shirt sponsor deal.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Mersyesiders’ commercial master plan.
London-based finance company Standard Chartered have been Liverpool’s chief sponsor since 2010 and currently pay £40m-a-year for the privilege.
But an Anfield source told Football Insider last Friday (22 April) that they are in talks with several new firms about a potential replacement deal.
It is understood that the quadruple chasers believe they can now command £50m per year when the Standard Chartered contract expires in 2023.
Man United embarked on a five-year sponsorship deal worth £235m in total with tech giants TeamViewer in July last year.
And Plumley claims that Liverpool will likely attract a similar clientele in terms of interested commercial partners.
“Their performances of late certainly help,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Success on the pitch is always a benchmarking factor when you’re looking at negotiations.
“The wider benchmark are those clubs at the top of the market. Where can they set their sights?
“Man United’s deal is worth £47m, Chelsea and City are on £40m. For context, Real Madrid’s is the highest in the world at the moment at £60m per year.
“I think you have to use those figures as a comparison. It depends on the sponsor and the context.
“They are more likely to move on par with United before they move to the next step.”

Liverpool recorded revenue of £487m for the 2020-21 financial year, of which £217.6m came from the commercial department.
They trail Man City by one point in the league and face Vilareall in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final tie on Wednesday (27 April)
