Liverpool backed to re-sign ‘unbelievable’ Coutinho from Barcelona after offer – Robinson

Liverpool should only pursue re-signing Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona if the financial package is right.

That is the view of former Tottenham and Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of the 28-year-old returning to Anfield three years after his departure.

According to Spanish publication AS, Barcelona chiefs have offered to send Coutinho back to Liverpool this summer.

It is said that in return the La Liga giants want the £40million they still owe the Premier League club for the transfer of the attacking midfielder in January 2018 written off.

Robinson suggested Liverpool’s priority for now should be signing a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

“Of course they have lost Wijnaldum which was a big surprise for me,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“They need to sign a replacement for him and we know Liverpool are not flush with cash right now. Therefore, I think the return of Coutinho would only be a good idea if the finances are right. It would have to make sense for the long-term interests of the club.

“I feared when he left that he would leave a big hole at Liverpool but they actually went from strength to strength.

“It will be a very interesting one to keep your eye on though because he is an unbelievable player on his day. You could not imagine him going anywhere else in the Premier League.”

Jurgen Klopp was a big fan of Coutinho and was reluctant to let him leave the club three years ago.

As quoted by the Mirror, Klopp hailed the Brazil international “a genius of a player” in 2016.
