Liverpool backed to sign Josko Gvardiol for ‘£80m+’ after source’s reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has urged Liverpool to sign Josko Gvardiol this summer.
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender is not sure the Reds will be willing to spend “£80-plus million” on a centre-back.
On 3 March, this site revealed that the RB Leipzig star and boyhood Reds fan is a target for Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the summer window.
But, the Merseysiders are set to face stiff competition from a number of top European clubs for the 21-year-old’s signature.
His current contract at Leipzig runs until 2027 after signing an extension in September 2022 but has been heavily linked with a move away from the German club.
Klopp has struggled with injuries in central defence and has alternated between Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.
Hutton insisted Gvardiol could be the missing piece of the puzzle at Anfield.
“I think he is an excellent player,” he told Football Insider.
“We are talking about a lot of money, left-sided, great range of passing, he is physical, he is a good size. Him playing up with a Virgil van Dijk who is fully fit, I think a lot of fans would be very happy with that.
“It is going to cost a lot of money and whether they are willing to spend that on a centre-half we will soon find out.

“We are talking £80-plus million for him. But I think it is well worth it. He is only 21, it is crazy to think that he is playing at that level at such a young age and taking it all in his stride.
“So I think that would be an excellent signing.“
