Liverpool backed to win Champions League this season after source’s ‘massive’ Diaz update – Kenny
Paddy Kenny has tipped Liverpool to win the Champions League this season if they secure the signing of Luis Diaz.
The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid the reds’ late-window swoop for the Porto winger.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier today (28 January), Diaz, 25, is set to undergo a medical in Argentina this weekend after Liverpool had a bid accepted by Porto.
The Merseyside giants have offered an initial £37.5million plus £12.5m of add-ons for the Colombia international and that is believed to have been accepted.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that a delegation from the club has flown out to Argentina, where Diaz will be at the weekend preparing for his country’s clash next Tuesday.
Kenny hailed Diaz‘s potential arrival as “exciting” and claims he can help to fire the Reds’ to Champions League success this season.
“He looked nailed on for Tottenham so that is a massive blow for them,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It will be a massive signing for Liverpool and it adds to their firepower.
“Obviously they already have quality players in that area and it just makes them even stronger.
“Liverpool know they need extra firepower if they are going to hunt down Man City.
“They might also have one eye on the Champions League and you would back them to win it if Diaz signs.
“What an exciting move for Liverpool. Their window has gone from poor to great in the blink of an eye.”
Liverpool face Inter Milan in the first knockout round of the Champions League.
The games will be played on 16 February and 8 March.
