Revealed: Liverpool bank £105m as Real Madrid payment confirmed

Liverpool earned £105million in prize money from their run to the Champions League final last term, Football Insider can reveal.

They earned more than any other English club on the way to the showpiece in Paris last May, where they were ultimately beaten 1-0 by 14-time champions Real Madrid.

Liverpool missed out on an extra £4m with their failure to beat the Spanish giants, who earned £117m all told.

The data was revealed in Uefa’s 2021-22 financial report, which was sent to this site upon its release on Wednesday (5 March).

Liverpool earned £13.7m as a starting fee before a ball was kicked, and another £20m from their coefficient ranking.

A further £15.7m was added from the market pool, which is distributed in accordance with the proportional value of the TV markets represented by individual clubs.

Liverpool earned the highest possible amount in performance bonuses – £15.9m – from the group stage thanks to their six straight wins.

Payments of £8.4m, £9.3m and £11m followed in the round-of-16, quarter-final and semi-final, before a final top-up for reaching the final at the Stade de France.

Liverpool will have earned around £30m less this year as they were knocked out by Real Madrid at the round-of-16 stage.

Tottenham

Besides the Merseysiders, Man City earned the most out of the English clubs in 2021-22 with £96m.

Liverpool are facing an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League next season, with Klopp’s side 10 points outside the top four with just 10 matches remaining.
