Liverpool board axes Mohamed Salah from Liverpool squad vs Inter Milan, Arne Slot’s stance revealed

Liverpool have decided to leave Mohamed Salah out of the squad to play Inter Milan on Tuesday night amid an ongoing feud between all parties.

Sources told Football Insider that Salah is unhappy at Liverpool after he was benched for the last three matches in the Premier League.

The lack of minutes will be rather frustrating for Salah ahead of his impending departure for AFCON as Egypt look to win the continent’s most prized trophy.

Salah has been reportedly causing problems in the Liverpool dressing room, suggesting an exit is on the cards in January.

Arne Slot and board make unified Mohamed Salah decision

Following a horrendous run of form in all competitions, the Reds turn their attention to the Champions League as they travel to face Inter Milan.

Liverpool have won three of their five European matches this season and, with the Premier League title slipping further and further away, they need to prioritise winning Europe’s elite competition.

However, they are set to be without a key player according to Fabrice Hawkins (8 December), who stated that Salah is out of the Liverpool squad for the pivotal match.

The Egyptian had made public comments over his frustrations at Anfield, which have clearly not gone down well with Arne Slot, nor his superiors.

It is understood that Slot and FSG have agreed together to leave Salah at home as they jet out to Italy.

Are Liverpool better off without Salah?

With sources telling Football Insider that Salah could be on his way to Saudi Arabia in January, the Reds will be debating whether they even need the winger anymore.

The 33-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the 2026-27 season, suggesting Liverpool may be wise to cash in on him in the upcoming transfer window.

Relations are evidently deteriorating between both the club and the player and a sale to Saudi Arabia may be the best thing to do to create an improved atmosphere at Anfield.

When the number 11 goes off to AFCON, Slot will be intrigued to see how his side copes with his complete absence from the squad as a mini test to see whether selling the Egyptian will benefit all parties.
