Liverpool ‘can’t afford Mohamed Salah contract’ as price rockets – ‘wow’

Mohamed Salah may be making a new contract unaffordable for Liverpool with his recent form, Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested.

The winger continued his excellent season with a goal and two assists for the Reds in their 5-0 thrashing of West Ham on Sunday (29 December) that kept them well clear at the top of the Premier League.

There is though a growing concern for supporters of the club about the fact he is out of contract at the end of this season, meaning he – along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – could leave for free in the summer.

As speculation about a new deal continues, there have been some suggestions that Liverpool are willing to increase his salary from £350,000 to £400,000 per week.

Agbonlahor though has suggested that the Egyptian’s form might be making it hard for the Merseysiders to match his demands.

Speaking about Salah’s contract situation on talkSPORT, the former Aston Villa striker said: “All the best Liverpool, because if you’re Salah and his agent, your negotiaton tool, wow!

“You’re having the best season you’ve had as a Liverpool player, you look like the best version of Mo Salah, age doesn’t matter when you’re playing like you’re playing.

“Every game he’s performing like he is, the closer he’s getting to the end of his contract, the price is going up. So Liverpool aren’t doing themselves any favours.

“Every player, all three of them, Salah, Van Dijk, Trent, the price is going up because they’re all playing the best football of their career.

“So I don’t what they’re asking for but I think what Mo Salah’s demanding, maybe Liverpool can’t pay.”

Mo Salah is earning the right to demand a big wage from Liverpool

It is an incredible run of form that the Egyptian is in at the minute, having scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists in 18 Premier League games alone this season.

In doing so the 32-year-old has made himself the integral part of the club’s hopes of lifting silverware during the current campaign.

But given that shows how important he is to Arne Slot’s side, it may arguably also be causing issues at Anfield when it comes to his contract situation.

With how well he is playing, Salah me well feel he can demand as much as he wants to sign a new contract with Liverpool, considering how valuable he is to their hopes of success.

As Agbonlahor says, that may make it hard for the club to match what he wants financially, especially when potentially having to deal with similar extensions for Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold as well.

With that in mind the form of Salah that is so important to them now, could yet be a problem when it comes to his future beyond the end of this season.
