Liverpool ‘concerned’ about Arne Slot after ‘massive’ development

Liverpool have had a dismal few weeks at Anfield following their strong start to the season and frustrations are beginning to grow.

Arne Slot’s side lost 2-1 to Man United on 19 October after a late Harry Maguire header secured the visitors their first win at Anfield since 2016.

That meant the Reds have now lost four games in a row since their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, leading to growing concerns behind the scenes.

A number of players including Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have come under fire, while Slot has been slammed for his decision-making.

While there are no suggestions that the boss could come under immediate pressure any time soon, sections of the fanbase have already begun asking questions.

Arne Slot facing questions after Liverpool collapse

As a result of Liverpool’s dreadful run of form, the hierarchy at Anfield are expecting results to pick up immediately, otherwise questions will start to be asked.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Slot is not beyond criticism and will be expected to win games.

Upcoming fixtures against Eintracht Frankfurt, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa will be key before they enter another difficult run of games.

If any team loses four games in a row, they’re going to be concerned,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Slot has done a brilliant job since taking over from Jurgen Klopp, they won the league last season and did very well, and I think they’re still clearly a good side.

“He says all the right things in the media, but with the drop in form and performances they’ve had recently, there will be people who aren’t happy.

“Especially after a massive game like the one against United which they always want to win.

“That’s always the way when you’re managing a club the size of Liverpool, you’re expected to win every game, so losing four in a row is not good enough.

“The fans will see that, and the board will as well, and they’ll be expecting those results to pick up sooner rather than later.

“Sometimes it’s difficult, things start to drop off and you can’t quite put your finger on why, and things just don’t seem to be clicking for Liverpool right now.

“They’ll pick it up and get back to the form they’ve shown before, I’m sure of that, but the manager probably needs it to happen sooner rather than later or he’ll be under pressure.”

This comes after Wayne Rooney criticised Slot’s side, insisting they have become complacent after last season’s success and their busy summer transfer window.

Liverpool concerns growing after big-spending summer

Growing pressure on Slot has come alongside heavy criticism of a number of their star players, despite having invested heavily during the summer.

Isak’s displays have been slammed by pundits, with Micah Richards the latest to suggest he has become a shadow of the player he was at Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Wirtz started the defeat to Man United on the bench and has come in for intense scrutiny since his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen.

The level of investment in Liverpool’s squad has not done them any favours, while their defensive instability has grown given the lack of investment at the back.

Despite their numerous attacking reinforcements, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate remain the only available centre-backs, leading to new concerns growing.
