Liverpool could accelerate plans to sign Jude Bellingham after approach – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Liverpool could accelerate plans to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Reds’ disappointing end to the season may have convinced Jurgen Klopp to push for a deal this summer.

A recruitment source told Football Insider (21 April) Dortmund have no intention of selling Bellingham, 18, this year after both Liverpool and Manchester United made enquiries.

Football Insider revealed in March that the German giants are working on a new contract for the midfielder.

Having seen Liverpool miss out on both the Premier League and Champions League, Hutton suggested Liverpool may make another push to sign the England sensation.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think Jude Bellingham is a brilliant player. For one so young and what he’s done in his career so far is actually incredible.

“Is he going to be the guy who’s going to come in and score 10-15 goals? I don’t know, possibly. He’s definitely got that in his locker. You see that in the way he plays, his driving runs, he’s only going to get better.

“With the end of the season that Liverpool have had, maybe it’s pushed along their plans to say: ‘We’re going to need a big midfield signing to really push us on.’

“You never know, but I think it’d be a great signing if they could get hold of him.”

Bellingham has played 90 times for Dortmund since joining from Birmingham City in the summer of 2020.

He scored six goals and contributed 14 assists in 44 games during the 2021/22 campaign.
