Liverpool could complete forward signing as ‘devastating’ Luis Diaz details emerge – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Liverpool could add another attacking option in January after Luis Diaz’s “devastating” injury setback.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Jurgen Klopp won’t want to be “caught short” as other attackers like Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez “really rack up the minutes” in the second half of the season.
As per The Guardian (12 December), Liverpool expect Diaz, 25, to be out until March after undergoing knee surgery following a setback suffered while away in the United Arab Emirates.
The report quotes Klopp, who described the fresh injury as a “real smash in the face”.
Diaz has been out of action since a knee injury in mid-October.
The Colombia international was a bright spark and notched four goals and three assists in 11 appearances at the start of this term.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Losing a player of his quality and someone with that influence on a game, it’s devastating.
“They’ve got some really important games now, and they’ve got a lot of ground to make up in terms of performances and also the league table.
“Him getting injured puts a lot of pressure on a lot of players to play week-in, week-out and really rack up those minutes.

“It’s devastating for the player, and I think Jurgen Klopp will see him as one of the most important in this Liverpool side.
“January is coming up, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Klopp add one more attacker. He won’t want to be caught short like he has been in defence and midfield in the past.”
