Liverpool could sign next Mohamed Salah after ‘exceptional’ update – pundit
Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Ajax winger Antony amid reported interest from Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one claimed the 21-year-old is “a real top player” after “watching him closely” this season.
According to Graeme Bailey, writing for Anfield Watch (18 February), the Reds have been interested in Antony since the summer of 2021.
Jurgen Klopp is said to have been “hugely impressed” by the Brazil international, who is under contract until July 2025.
Speaking to De Telegraaf (22 February), Antony revealed he is happy at Ajax but confessed he “thinks about” a move to the Premier League or La Liga in the future.
Robinson fears Antony is too similar to Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
“Antony is a real top player,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“I have done the Eredivisie a few times this season and I’ve watched Ajax closely.
“Antony is very, very creative. He has great awareness around the box, is quick, can deliver a ball and has chipped in with a fair amount of goals as well.

“He has exceptional quality but he’s very similar to what Liverpool have got. When you look at Diaz, Salah and Mane, Antony is very similar to them. You can only play three up there and you’ve got [Diogo] Jota and [Roberto] Firmino as well.
“But at the same time, Antony is a top, top class player who would fit perfectly into that Liverpool formation and style of play.”
