Finance guru: ‘Millions of people will take notice’ as new Liverpool deal announced

Liverpool are so appealing as a commercial partner because they attract the attention of millions every time they announce a new sponsorship deal.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Merseysiders’ status as a commercial tour de force.

Technology firm Extreme Networks announced last Wednesday (18 May) that they have signed a multi-year partnership with the Champions League finalists.

The United States-based firm also embarked on a partnership with Man United earlier this year, and they also have links with the NFL and NHL.

Plumley analysed the new deal and explained why Extreme Networks consider Liverpool an ideal partner.

“This is to do with profile and prestige,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“We know that big mergers and sponsorship deals happen all the time in business, but often we don’t hear about that news.

“However, the minute a football club changes hands or a big sponsorship deal is signed, millions of people take notice. From a sponsor’s point of view, that’s what they look to.

“Football clubs give you that where a lot of other industries don’t do. Liverpool’s on-pitch dominance helps. You can definitely see the appeal.”

Liverpool’s commercial income for 2020-21 totalled £217million.

That figure is expected to rise this season due to the reduced impact of Covid and improved performance on the pitch.
