Liverpool deal for Jude Bellingham hinges on key development at Anfield – Robinson

Paul Robinson fears Liverpool will only be able to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham if Fenway Sports Group sell the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Liverpool’s current ownership would not fund a bid north of £100million for the 19-year-old.

Bellingham has been one of the standout performers at the World Cup.

Liverpool are one of many European clubs chasing the midfielder’s signature heading into 2023.

According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, via Anfield Watch (2 December), a price of £129million has been loosely placed on Bellingham by Borussia Dortmund.

The journalist fears that price would prove hefty for the Reds.

When asked by Football Insider if a takeover is necessary for Bellingham to arrive at Anfield, Robinson said: “If Liverpool want to compete for the likes of Bellingham the need new investment or they need to sell.

“It looks as if that will be the only way they can go again in the transfer market.

Liverpool

“Bellingham has only enhanced his reputation at the World Cup. Borussia Dortmund are going to want top dollar for him. I’m talking north of £100million. Therefore, Liverpool are going to have to match the highest bidder if they want to sign him.

“Would the current owners fund a move at that price? I’m not so sure. That is why I think it is vital that there is a change of ownership there within the next six to eight months.”

In other news, a finance guru has claimed Liverpool’s takeover value may just have plummeted as ‘status quo totally disrupted’.
