Finance guru: Liverpool ‘devastated’ as ‘£6m’ Uefa payout imminent
Liverpool will be “devastated” by their failure to win the Champions League – and the additional £6.3m they have missed out on in prize money will rub salt into the wound.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the financial implications of the Reds’ 1-0 defeat in Paris.
Real Madrid’s triumph came courtesy of a 60th-minute Vinicius Junior strike, although the football was overshadowed by the chaotic scenes outside the Stade de France.

Uefa’s primary concern will be the independent review, which was announced on Monday (30 May), into the apparently indiscriminate use of tear fas and pepper spray on fans.
But the governing body will also be readying its final prize money payouts, which are not completed in full before the end of the season because of coefficient considerations.
And Plumley explains that Real are set to bag £6.3m for lifting the famous trophy.
“They’ll be devastated, of course, but it’s still been a successful year on and off the pitch,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“It’s £3.8m for the winner of the final. It’s another £2.5m for qualifying for the Super Cup. So, we can say £6.3m.
“They received £13.2m for winning the semi-final. The final figure will be far greater than that, of course.
“When you put that into context, it’s not a massive hit, although they would obviously rather have the money.”

Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan has commended the behaviour of fans at the Stade de France.
The Merseysiders held a parade on Sunday (29 May) for winning the FA Cup and League Cup in 2021-22.
