Liverpool Exclusive: Bryan Mbeumo race takes new twist

Liverpool have cooled their interest in Brentford star man Bryan Mbeumo, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds had lined up a move for the £60million-rated Bees forward as Mohamed Salah negotiated a contract renewal at Anfield.

But in a new twist with Salah committed for two more years – it is believed Liverpool‘s interest in Mbeumo is waning.

The Cameroon international will still have no shortage of suitors in the summer transfer window following his stunning form for Brentford this term.

Liverpool could instead push ahead with a move for a new striker – with Darwin Nunez expected to leave Anfield and Diogo Jota’s future uncertain.

Mbeumo has scored 18 goals and notched eight assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this season.

The forward is under contract at Brentford until June 2026 and Thomas Frank’s side hold the option to extend his deal by 12 months.

Mbeumo has been with the Bees since 2019 and cost just £5.4million when he joined the then-Championship club.

Liverpool make Harvey Elliott decision

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last week (21 April) that Liverpool will not look to sell Harvey Elliott this summer despite his lack of action in the 2024-25 campaign.

The Reds view Elliott, 22, as an all-important homegrown talent with huge potential for the future.

Elliott has not started a single Premier League game since Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp last summer (2024).
